Who am I, and why am I uniquely positioned to write this?
With over 17 years of bottom-up to executive experience in facilities energy and sustainability management, I’ve overseen challenging facilities portfolios exceeding 20 million square feet. My journey has included recognition as Canada’s Energy Engineer of the Year in 2013, and I hold both an MBA with distinction from Cornell University and a Master’s of Engineering. As a licensed professional engineer (P.Eng.), my expertise is rooted in a combination of real-world problem-solving, industry certification, and academic achievement.
What sets me apart is my focus on practical, actionable solutions for sustainable facilities. I’ve spent nearly two decades navigating and honing my skillset through on-the-ground experience, professional learning, and continuous education. While the educational landscape is just beginning to offer relevant training, I’ve been involved in this transformation, contributing to programs at Humber College in Toronto. I know firsthand the challenges of passing down industry knowledge and training the next generation of professionals, and this Substack is my effort to bridge that gap.
What am I writing about, and why is it different?
This Substack focuses on sustainability in the built environment, exploring corporate strategies for sustainability, facility services, and efficient energy and water management. What makes this content unique is the perspective I bring as someone who has implemented solutions on a large scale—improving the environmental impact of properties by reducing over 250,000 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions and saving more than $50 million in operational costs. My approach is not theoretical but grounded in tested strategies and real-world outcomes.
